You design your pet when you start, then change its look at the Stylist and dress it from your wardrobe (see Outfits & style). At home it wanders around, sits on furniture and plays with toys by itself.

It has just two needs: the heart bar (food) and flies (dirt). There's no sleep or mood to worry about, and nothing bad happens if you forget, but a hungry, smelly pet will keep asking you in its speech bubble, and everyone can see its flies.

(Little pets that need more care are petlings.)

• The bar runs from 0 to 100. Every meal adds its food points, which then fade away over 24 hours.
• Under 25 your pet is hungry and its bubble asks for food: tap the bubble and Mr Mayor shows you what to do.
• Each meal gives XP: half its food points.

1. Open your chest and drag a food onto your pet: it takes it and eats it.
2. Or put the food in your room and tap it: your pet walks over and eats it.

The Food Shop's 15-point fruits and snacks for 30 coins or less are the everyday picks. Some foods have 0 points and don't fill the bar at all.

At 2 flies your pet asks for a bath. Wash it either way, with the chest open:

1. Drop a soap on your pet: it washes itself, one fly at a time.
2. Or rub the soap over your pet yourself.

Where to get soap

• Every new pet starts with a soap.
• Level gifts: (level 1), (level 6) and (level 20).
• The Petling Shop (in the petling book): 80 coins, 150 and 250. They wash petlings too.

• Meals are digested after a day. The bigger the meals, the likelier a poop when your pet next eats or sits on a toilet.
• Tap a poop and confirm to clean it up: +10 XP and up to 49 coins.
• Toilets (like the from level 2) give your pet somewhere to go: tap one and it sits down.
